A well cared-for canvas can outlive several generations. The work we send out of the studio is already varnished, signed, and packed in archival materials, but its long life begins the moment it reaches your wall.
Unpack slowly. Cut the outer tape, lift the painting by the stretcher bars (never the surface), and let it acclimatise in the room for an hour before hanging.
Hang it away from direct sunlight and away from radiators or air-conditioning vents. Soft, indirect light flatters every palette and keeps pigments stable over decades.
Dust the surface twice a year with a clean, dry, soft brush — the kind you would use for fine porcelain. Never apply water, glass cleaner, or polish.
If you ever need to move, transport the work upright between two pieces of acid-free board, with the corners protected. The same care that built the painting is the care it asks for, gently, in return.
